Tell us a little about yourself? Where did you grow up and how did you get into horses?
I grew up in Oglesby Oklahoma, I am 38 years old and been riding all my life. My parents got us into horses and playday when we were little and I just kept going with it as I got older.
What is your horses personality like? Any quirks? What is something people may not know about your horse?
Well, Maverick is pretty unique, bought him as a 5 yr old bc he had gate issues, he would rear up and refuse the arena. I sold him once but got him back bc he started rearing at the trailer, warming up and at the gate again so I just gave the money back and kept him. He no longer refuses the gate, he was the 2023 PBRIP year end 1D champion and high point champion. He is currently winning the ACRA and in the top 10 in the IPRA world standings. He is full of quirks, he’s scared of most noises, but he loves when the crowd is yelling for him, he might set back at the trailer from time to time. He also enjoys a beer now and then.
Did you breed and raise this horse yourself? If not, what attracted you to this horse to purchase?
No, I did not breed and raise him. He was cheap and I knew he was talented in the arena.
Tell us anything special about your arena record run – was there anything you done different that day?
Nothing special, I just let him go out there and make his run.
Do you have a favorite setup?
I prefer a smaller arena with the barrels on the fence.
Tell us something funny about a run you made, we never see the bloopers behind the scenes?
Tried to set up the 3rd barrel at cowtown in Ft worth and I fell off!
What is your horses exercise routine like?
He gets ponied on the 4 wheeler a few days a week.
What is your feeding program like, do you use any special supplements?
He gets a scoop of feed I have milled in Enda KS (about $10 a bag) FORCO Alfalfa Wheat germ oil Advanced Equine Nutrition Products-He gets the Performance Complete + and the Mag + daily
What is a bit that will always be hanging in your tack room?
Jr Cowhorse
Does your horse run in shoes are barefoot?
Barefoot
Any big Future Plans?
Just keep rodeoing, probably focus more on the IPRA next year.
If you could make a run on any horse out there, who would it be?
Didn’t say living or dead but I’m going to go with Scamper
