DUSKY LYNN HALL

This name needs no introduction, To the winner’s circle. The young superstar has taken the barrel racing industry by Storm, With so much on her resume it’s been exciting to see what she does next. She stole all our hearts in 2021 when at 7 years old qualified For her First American Rodeo on then 15-year-old horse now retired Ol Doc “Choco” then went on to Win Christmas in Dixie at Jackson Mississippi, she qualified for the American Again, Won the Truck at Vegas Tuffest, Won Ogden 8 & Under Championship two years in a row at age 7&8 and the resume has kept building and building.  Not only does she thank her great team of horses, Aint Seen Famous Yet, VF Eysa Famous, Jets Letters Ta Abby, KB Baby Driver, Add A Dash ( now retired) and Troublenlooksogood she also knows that it has taken a village, such as her sponsors, her family has been a big part of her success, as well many great mentors, her teacher and all the people that work with her and her horses to make sure she’s riding her best and that her horses feel their greatest. We can’t deny she is hardworking and inspiring and we are only beginning to see what the future holds for this young talented fearless rider. Equispace was able to catch up with Dusky Lynn, see what she had to say. • You are the first 10 Year old in barrel racing history to win a million dollars , what did that take?

It just took the Amazing Trainers, my amazing horses, the people that helped me along the way, The desire and my family that gave me this opportunity to go. 

• What is your daily routine?

I get up early in the morning, I either do my school work really early or later in the afternoon. If I do it later in the afternoon, I will ride the horses in the morning. If it is cooler in the day time, I will do my school work in the morning and then ride the horses. Go to lunch, and then will do the opposite after. 

• How do you balance your education and being on the road so much? I have a teacher named Kay Sample, she comes early in the morning, depending on our schedule, we do school for a few hours, she just helps us balance our schedule that day and works around it. She sends me homework to take while I’m on the road, that I can do and send back to her.

• What is your workout routine? All my horses I just ride and exercise, we use a lot of people to help us. She mentions Amelia McCumber, Ashley Schafer, Cheyenne Wimberly, Erika Nelson, Jena Garwood, Sara Rose, Lindsay Hoffman and Carlos Renato of the incredible people to help her on this journey. I might put them on the walker, or tune on them before a race. I do a lot of pasture riding, sometimes bareback.  Erin Ellis will come do Equi scope on them, we will do the Bemer and spa on them or sometimes we just turn them out. 

• We got to ask mom a few questions, we asked how she handles pressure and the critics.

Pressure really doesn’t bother her, She’s really a calm kid and doesn’t really get nervous. She treats every barrel race as just another barrel race. 

She doesn’t really feel pressure. She’s very happy to go to the Barrel Races. She loves her horses and loves being with them as a team. 

When it comes to Critics, I am her only critic “Mom” When she comes out of the arena we talk about it and what we can do to make things better. We focus on all the good she does and how to keep her confidence up.

• What is something that has helped you be inspired to keep working so hard that could help someone else? 

She has trained herself and her horses, whichever horse she’s on lets go win this or lets reset the arena record, were going to win this together and walks off to focus on her run. 

 

• What is a Favorite Quote that helps you stay inspired?

“Chase your dreams and never give up”

 

• What are we going to see from you in the next few years? What are your goals?

Never talked about winning a million dollars, just worked hard and it made it happen. But now her goals are bigger to Win the American and be at 2 Million.
