Tell us a little about yourself? Where did you grow up and how did you get into horses?
I grew up in Lakeland, Florida, and horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My parents used to bring horses in from out west and up north to our place we called Buckaroo Ranch in Lakeland.
Over the years, my family got out of horses, but I never really did. I kept finding my way back—riding whatever I could, wherever I could, just trying to stay in the saddle. It wasn’t always fancy, but it’s what kept the love alive.
Looking back now, I’m grateful for those years of just making it work and learning from every horse that came my way. They’ve all shaped the rider I am today.
What is his personality like? Any quirks? What is something people may not know about him?
If there’s one thing about Z Dashin Wonderbug, it’s that he’s full of personality. He’s the kind that has to be in the middle of everything—goofy, curious, and always finding something to play with. He’s got such a good mind and a willing attitude!
Did you breed and raise him yourself? If not, what attracted you to purchase?
I actually stumbled across a Facebook ad one day, and this big bay yearling caught my eye. I watched him for a while before finally deciding to take the jump and drive 4.5 hours north to see him in person. That’s where I met Patrice Richert and Z Dashin Wonderbug.
When I pulled up, there stood this huge yearling stud colt — and to be honest, I thought he might be a little more than I could handle. He was a spunky one! But after about 30 minutes, we got him loaded, and the rest is history. Back to Lakeland we went, and that’s where our story really started.
Share anything special about your arena record run. Was there something you did differently that day?
Before my run, I had a quick pep talk with BJ Roebuck while warming up. She’s the one who broke my gelding, so standing there with her before our run felt really special. It was such a full-circle moment — seeing how far he’s come from those first rides to now.
All in all though, I’m proud of his confidence and how well he’s adapting.
What is his exercise routine like?
I try to keep it simple and consistent. I aim to ride 5 times a week, focusing on the basics. I’ve been doing a lot of slow barrel work, just concentrating on smooth, relaxed passes. No need to overcomplicate things! It’s also great to have my friend Kelsey to ride with; she keeps me motivated and always gives me advice and tips.
What is your feeding program like, do you use any special supplements?
For my horse’s diet, I keep it straightforward: ProForce XF, free choice alfalfa, and a Horslic Performance lick. It’s a simple routine that works for him!

Planning on 2026 futurities, but just grateful for the journey!!
What could be done to better the sport of barrel racing? Any special advice you would like to give?
There have been many times I’ve doubted this process with a young horse and questioned all the talk about “just buy the young horse”. I can now agree and say Do it!! Ask for help, continue to seek knowledge, and always be teachable!
